Focus is a skill, not a personality trait. Every athlete can improve it — but almost none are ever taught how. In today's world of endless notifications and distractions, focus might be the biggest edge a young athlete can build.
We work on two levels. First, "narrow focus" — the ability to lock in on the next ball, the next rep, the next decision, without your mind wandering to the last mistake or the scoreboard. Second, "focus recovery" — how quickly you get back on task after being pulled away.
Practical work includes pre-performance routines, cue words that reset attention, breathing patterns for high-pressure moments, and simple training-ground drills that build attentional stamina over time.
