Confidence

Trust yourself to show what you can do.

Confidence is trusting yourself to show what you can do — even when the stakes are high or the last performance didn't go well. It's not arrogance or noise. It's a quiet, earned belief that comes from preparation and reflection.

We build confidence in three ways. First, competence: are you actually doing the training that would justify feeling ready? Second, evidence: keeping a simple record of things you've done well so your brain has proof to draw on. Third, self-talk: catching the harsh inner voice and replacing it with the voice you'd use with a teammate.

Mentors also help athletes protect confidence — how to receive criticism without collapsing, how to lose a game without losing yourself, and how to walk on to the pitch, court or track like you belong there.
